It's a genuine hatred and emnity that's been going on for years.
But Liverpool and Wigan? Never known any nasty rivalry in that. The fact that we've only met in the league about half a dozen times means it hasn't got any of the historical nastiness that Liverpool's meetings with Man U does.
So if Liverpool fans can tolerate seeing Marseilles fans celebrating a goal in our end why can't Wigan fans tolerate seeing Liverpool fans celebrating in their end?

It's a fair point to say the Marseille fans weren't attacked to emphasise the moronic behaviour of the Wigan fans. However, I do wonder if the same would apply if one of our North West rivals' fans were present in the home end? Probably not.
As you know, a lot of provincial and narrow-minded folks out there in the North West who love nothing more than to wind one another up. Which, sadly, results in violence.

im a blue but i do agree that going in an away end NO MATTER who the team is you cant expect to celebrate and then have the opposition fans congratulate you and shake your hand!

i dont condone any violence at all but from my experience at GP (as i dont go across the park) there is a lot of away fans 'up for it'. im not suggesting for 1 minute that its all one way im sure theres blues who do the same in the kop but 1 i wouldnt go near it and 2 no way on dery day.

about 3 years back one red (female) turned and faced the gwladys on her feet and then kissed the badge after liverpool scored. she was hit and spat at and then ejected for her own safety. i dont condone this at all but she did contribute to what happened and i must say i had little sympathy.

take them rose tinted glassed off tony and open your eyes...if you think that teams with no great rivalry are going to welcome liverpool (or any team for that matter!) then your sadly, sadly mistaken. welcome to 2007
