Marseilles fans in the Liverpool end

By Tony Barrett on Oct 4, 07 08:17 AM

Apparently, according to some of our friends from Wigan anyway, if you go in the home end as an away fan then you're "going to get what's coming".
Funny that because last night I saw Marseilles fans in the Upper Centenary, Anfield Road and Main Stand and no one bothered them.
They celebrated their winning goal like they'd just won the World Cup and were not attacked by a mob of bullies.
They were just allowed to enjoy their moment because, let's be honest, they were not doing anyone any harm.

So why are Wigan fans different?
What makes them think that an away fan celebrating a goal in the home end must be beaten?
Must be something in the pies.

I'll remember that if we see a Manchester United fan jumping up and down on the Kop if they win again at Anfield

Please show me any response to your blog from Monday from a Latics fan that says if you go into the home end "you're going to get what's coming."

All the responses I've read state that no-one deserved what happened but that the Liverpool fans involved didn't simply celebrate, they deliberately antagonised those around them verbally & physically and can't be absolved of all the blame
And if the best you can manage is a lame dig about pies, then it says alot for your journalistic abilities!!!

i'm sorry but if you go in the opposition end and celebrate then you deserve whatever comes your way! I like to see your reaction if there were man united fans sat in front who cheered when they scored, are you telling me you'd sit there and just take it?

Segregation is there for a reason.

Is right la- We never attack other fans apart from Everton! sayin that- If there where Mancs in our ground cheering -like when Rooney scored in front of the Kop -we'd be kicking them out (and then chuck our mobiles at the little divvy)

good article there mate.

Man United is a totally different situation. We can just about share the North West with them, never mind the same end of the ground.
It's a genuine hatred and emnity that's been going on for years.
But Liverpool and Wigan? Never known any nasty rivalry in that. The fact that we've only met in the league about half a dozen times means it hasn't got any of the historical nastiness that Liverpool's meetings with Man U does.
So if Liverpool fans can tolerate seeing Marseilles fans celebrating a goal in our end why can't Wigan fans tolerate seeing Liverpool fans celebrating in their end?

So why are Wigan fans different?

What makes them think that an away fan celebrating a goal in the home end must be beaten?

Well, Tony, the difference is that they're all inbred.

It says you have four comments - are they full of expletives, hence why the public can't read them?
It's a fair point to say the Marseille fans weren't attacked to emphasise the moronic behaviour of the Wigan fans. However, I do wonder if the same would apply if one of our North West rivals' fans were present in the home end? Probably not.
As you know, a lot of provincial and narrow-minded folks out there in the North West who love nothing more than to wind one another up. Which, sadly, results in violence.

The answer is, they are a nothing club, on & off the pitch, the fans must want something to talk about, trying to make a name for themselves!!! Will there be a backlash at Anfield?i'm not sure.

most Wigan fans were mancs before wigan started playing half decent football - they are like the skin heads of the 70's - clueless!! Saying that, a few people at the game last weekend mentioned that there were a few scummy LFC fans asking for it - even down to abusing a pregnant woman and another telling his mate to bottle anyone as long as its not women or children!! As we know though theres good and bad everywhere its just that when its Liverpool involved the publicity seems to be a bit more extreme

Difference is Tony the Marseille fans, aren't English. They probably weren't in there screaming in our fans faces and being general idiots for a more polite choice of words.

Also it seems as if some of UTD's infamous "MIB"'s were in the Wigan end. Which apparently is standard issue cause half of City and Utd fans watch Wigan over the course of the season and with them having a late kickoff and Wigan being in Greater Manchester there were bound to be a few knocking about!

Either way- i digress. I agree with the posts above. If Utd/City/Wigan fans are sitting in hte home end at Anfield and they scored and went nuts then they'd get the hiding of their lives and in my opinion rightly so. Segregation is there for a reason and if you don't stick to it it's you who's responsible!

I know full well if im sitting at Anfield for a Liverpool v Utd game and i've got a manc sitting next to me and they score and go mad, I don't care about anyone else i'll give them the biggest hiding they'll ever recieve.

Come on Tony- Your a scouser mate, you know how it's different with foriegn fans and Mancs- mancs are the scum of the earth! Foriegners generally aren't!

what planet are you on tony?
dont know much about you at all but this article is a shock to me.

like many of YOUR fans have already pointed out segregation is there for a reason.

im a blue but i do agree that going in an away end NO MATTER who the team is you cant expect to celebrate and then have the opposition fans congratulate you and shake your hand!

i dont condone any violence at all but from my experience at GP (as i dont go across the park) there is a lot of away fans 'up for it'. im not suggesting for 1 minute that its all one way im sure theres blues who do the same in the kop but 1 i wouldnt go near it and 2 no way on dery day.

about 3 years back one red (female) turned and faced the gwladys on her feet and then kissed the badge after liverpool scored. she was hit and spat at and then ejected for her own safety. i dont condone this at all but she did contribute to what happened and i must say i had little sympathy.

take them rose tinted glassed off tony and open your eyes...if you think that teams with no great rivalry are going to welcome liverpool (or any team for that matter!) then your sadly, sadly mistaken. welcome to 2007

what if it had been wigan fans celebrating a goal on the kop? can't see it being handshakes all round somehow.

I guess we'll never know will we Terry?

miracles can happen Tony, your sudden hair growth being one of them!

the bottom line is that the liverpool fans should not of been there, but at the same time should they have been allowed to be beaten up for so long before the police bothered there lazy ass to go help.

I man who robs the a old ladys house falls and breaks both legs police stop and call for assistance, he was in the worng but he still got help, Greater Manchester police did not do enough to help the lads, it was a shambles.

but i would like to say fair play to them lads they took so many digs but didnt go down once.

Hair growing back on Tony's head????

More chance of a ground share with Man Utd!
