I Don't Actually Want People To Protest

Posted by Tony Barrett on July 25, 2007 3:38 PM |

Before anyone accuses me of rabble rousing or some mad bloke grabs a placard and goes down to picket Anfield I don't actually want people to protest.
The title of my last entry on this blog was a rhetorical question not some sort of ill-advised demand for civil unrest because we're moving to a new stadium.
It just interests me that Liverpool is regarded as one of the most militant cities in this country and yet in the 115 year history of its most famous sporting institution fans of Liverpool FC have been the least rebellious in the land.

For the record, I think the new stadium looks fantastic and I look forward to the day when I see the team play there.
But, equally, I'm dreading the day when Anfield is closed for good. And anyone who has been there as a Liverpool fan will know exactly what I'm talking about.
Progress always comes at a price and if Liverpool are to become more competitive both on and off the pitch I know a move to a bigger and better stadium is the only option.
I just hope we can give Anfield the send off it deserves.

saw on rawk yesterday that some people didn't get the gist yesterday. last day of the standing kop was bad enough let alone the blooody ground!

on a completely different subject how can these 2 things below be said on the same day and be believed when said:

On Heinze on Sky Website
"He's our player. That's the important thing. He's not Liverpool's player, despite them going on as if he's their player. "
On Tevez...on Sky Website

"Sir Alex Ferguson admits he already considers Carlos Tevez to be a Manchester United player."

Forgive me but is what is said below not tapping up by Utd?!

Tevez is determined to join United and Ferguson believes Heinze may have persuaded his fellow Argentine to make the move to Old Trafford.

"I think the fact they have been in the Argentine team the last few weeks I am sure Gaby has told him how good a club Manchester United is, because there is no other thing you can say about Manchester United from his own experiences," added Ferguson.
